The Macedonian right back had offers from several top clubs, but he decided to return to Zagreb after four seasons in Veszprém.
Kiril Lazarov Signs for Zagreb
After five years in Hungarian MKB Veszprem, Macedonian player Kiril Lazarov changes club and signs for former European Champion, Croatia Osiguranje Zagreb. The agreement was reached on Sunday afternoon before the game between Croatia Osiguranje and Ademar Leon. Lazarov had three options: Zagreb, Hamburg or Pamplona.
"Many things influenced me to choose Zagreb. They are working to create a strong team with great support from the city and government. In 2009 Croatia will host the World Championship as well," Lazarov told Eurohandball.com
Lazarov is currently the top scorer of the Champions League with 82 goal. He is followed by Eric Gull (Valladolid) with 71 goals and Lars Christiansen (Flensburg) with 68 goals. Both players still play second game from semi-final, and one of them will surely have two more games in the CL finals.
"I have good memories from the days when I played for Zagreb – though in that period the club had many problems. Many things have changed since then," Lazarov said.
"I hope I will play the CL final with Zagreb next season. That's our main task for the years to come.”
At the moment the Romanian Jurka and the young Kopljar play in the right back position for Zagreb. Lazarov will get his old shirt with number 7 back. National players – Mirza Dzomba, Igor Vori, Denis Spoljaric and Drazen Jerkovic – will also join Zagreb for the next season.
Impressive list of achievements
During his stay in Hungary, Lazarov won four championships titles, three cups, he played two CL semi-finals and he was also CL top scorer and Hungarian top scorer. He was awarded the best foreign player title twice in Hungary, in addition he was chosen the sportsmen of the city of Veszpém.
