Women’s CL on Dubai Sports
The TV channel Dubai Sports obtained the broadcast rights of the Men’s and Women’s EHF Champions League for the 2008/09 and 2009/10 seasons.
The agreement means that the top games of European club handball can be watched in 100 million households in the following countries: Saudi Arabia, Yemen, Oman, the UAE, Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait, Iraq, Iran, Syria, Lebanon, Jordan, the Palestinian Territories, Egypt, Sudan, Libya, Tunisia, Algeria, Morocco, Mauritania, Djibouti, Somalia and Eritrea.
The handball fans of these 23 countries could follow the men’s Champions League this season so far. The upcoming weekend women’s teams will also make their debut. This will be the first time in history that the women's club elite will appear live on TV in the countries of the Middle East.
EHF Marketing's Head of Media, Ulrich Gutweniger says: "This is the first time that Women's Champions League will be broadcast in the Middle East. This is a big step because this geographical area was not covered before. It was made possible by Sportsman Media Group that helped EHF Marketing sign a contract with Dubai Sports. Handball will have good coverage and broadcast time in this territory and the sport will receive good promotion in the Middle East."
Dubai Sports will show two games live from the first round of the Women’s Group Matches. However, the series of broadcasts will continue in the whole season.
