Valcea secure first place

Oltchim Valcea – Hypo Niederösterreich 32:27 (17:14)

The Romanian champion secured their first place in group 2 and remained unbeaten as the only team in the Women's CL Main Round. The victory against CL record winner Hypo Niederösterreich was only endangered 13 minutes before the end, when the Austrian had come closer to 24:25. But then Valcea again dominated the final stage with a series of 7:3. Valcea can’t be overtaken by second ranked team of Viborg anymore, as they have 9 points on their account in contrast to six of Viborg. So the direct duel of the two semifinalist next Saturday in Denmark is without meaning. For Valcea it’ll be more important, how group 1 will finalise, as they meet the second ranked team of this group – either Györ or Valcea.

The host started well against Hypo and let 13:7 in minute 21, before Hypo could reduce the gap until minute 47. Top scorer for the Austrian was CL top scorer Do Nascimento with nine goals, the same number as Valcea’s best scorer Vizitiu, Maier scored eight times.
