Closing a good season

Podravka Vegeta concludes the most successful CL season in the last 10 years. Eurohandball.com talks to the satisfied Director, Marijan Domović, about the great results of his team, an increasing number of fans, and about the upcoming match against Ikast.

Eurohandball.com: Podravka Vegeta will end the CL season this weekend. After 10 years your team was in the top eight. Are you satisfied? And what are the plans for next season?

Marijan Domović: Of course we are satisfied with this achievement. It is certain that Hypo and Viborg are better teams at this point and they deserve to play the semi-finals. Our only problem was getting defeated by so many goals. We tend to have concentration failures when our opponents take this opportunity and score many goals. And it is hard to catch up against such powerful teams.

I hope next season we will improve this part of our game, repeat good results from this season and stay in the handball elite.

Eurohandball.com: The number of fans has also increased.

Marijan Domović: We are very pleased with the number of our fans this season. Our hall is crowded for all CL matches. Also 50 fans travelled to Ikast and around 80 fans travelled to Vienna to give us support. They have created fantastic atmosphere and gave tremendous support for our team. I must emphasize that Podravka at this point have fans from many Croatian cities and from the nearby Hungary also. And their number is increasing. It makes me very happy.

Eurohandball.com: Last match in this season’s CL will be in front of your own fans against Ikast on Saturday. Expectations?

Marijan Domović: Ikast are a top team led by handball stars such as Katya Nyberg and Gro Hammerseng. Regardless our victory in Ikast, it will be very hard to beat them. I expect great handball and an exciting match. Nevertheless, our desire and obligation is to win. That way we can say thanks to our fans and to conclude a successful CL season with a victory. Also victory will bring us additional points which will be very important for EHF ranking in next CL season.
