Győr qualify with three victories

The Mihály Magvassy Sports Hall of Győr hosted the CL Qualification Tournament Group 1.

Home team, Győri Audi ETO KC, met French HB Metz, Slovak Iuventa Michalovce and Icelandic UMF Stjarnan.

Friday began with a huge surprise already: Stjarnan have beaten Metz that includes eight French national players in their roster. This triumph consumed all the energy of the small Icelandic team as they lost both their remaining matches by many goals.

The French, on the other hand, tried to make up for the initial defeat and won 33-26 against Michalovce.

The hosts led by Anita Görbicz made no mistake meanwhile. Győri Audi ETO won by 15 goals on day 1 against Michalovce and won by 13 against Stjarnan.

Decisive game

The last day’s Győr vs Metz game decided over the CL place on the last day. Though the French remained in the game until the very end, staying within two goals at times, the Hungarians – led by Pálinger and Bradeanu – won 30-27 at the end.

Győr won QT2 with three victories to continue in Group A together with Danish Slagelse, Spanish Cementos la Unión and Croatian Koprivnica.
