INTERVIEW OF THE DAY: HENRIETTE MIKKELSEN

One of the most important profiles in Viborg HK’s 24:22 win over Krim Ljubljana in the first leg of the Women’s Champions League finals was left winger Henriette Mikkelsen.

The fast Danish national team player, who is nicknamed “Henry” among her teammates, became her team’s top scorer with 7 goals, 4 out of which were scored on penalties.

Eurohandball.com has talked Henriette Mikkelsen during the team’s preparations for the second leg on Saturday.

Eurohandball.com: What was the first match like for you?

Henriette Mikkelsen: I think it was a good, but also very intense match, with a lot of noise from the home crowd! I have experienced similar noise in previous matches, but I must say that the spectators in Ljubljana were really good at making noise!

Eurohandball.com: How did you and your teammates manage to communicate in such a noise?

Henriette Mikkelsen: Actually it was not possible to communicate at all. We could not even hear what the player next to ourselves said. As a matter of fact, I could not even hear, what I shouted myself! We therefore had to trust in ourselves and each other.

Eurohandball.com: You appeared very “cool” when you took over shooting penalties after Heidi Astrup had missed the first penalty. What made you so cool in those situations?

Henriette Mikkelsen: I am used to shooting penalties in such important situations, so it did not really bother me at all.

Eurohandball.com: Do you simply like this lonesome duel with the goalkeeper?

Henriette Mikkelsen: Yes, you may say I do. I was very determined to score in those situations - I did not think Luminita Dinu in the Krim goal should be allowed to save too many shots!

Eurohandball.com: When looking at the second leg, everybody seems to think that Krim can play better, than they did in the first match. Are there also things your team can improve?

Henriette Mikkelsen: Yes, I think we can play better, too. You have to remember that we actually did not score many goals in Ljubljana, compared to the number of goals, we usually score. I am sure we will score more goals in the second match, but so will Krim probably, and in general I expect the spectators to get a better match in Århus, than in Ljubljana.
