Slagelse Wins in Hungary
The Ice Hockey Arena of Dunaújváros was fired up thistime, when it hosted the battle of two of the strongest handball teams currentlyin Europe. Slagelse seemed to be intimidated by the atmosphere at first, they misseda penalty and could not really get their act together. Dunaferr produced a 4-0run at the beginning, with Radulovics being prolific as ever and Pálingersaving many shots.
The visitors scored their first goal in the 8th minute as Dunaferr’s defencefunctioned very well and they applied the traditional Scandinavian weapon, thecounterattacks quite efficiently. The home side could open a three-goal leadtwice, but seasoned Fridrikas and team captain Popovic always managed to helptheir squad narrow the gap. The halftime score was 12-10.
In the second half, the Hungarian team continuedwhere they left off 15 minutes before. Even though Slagelse nearly equalized atthe beginning (13-12), Pálinger saved quite a few times and the home side wassoon ahead by three goals again, which they managed to keep until the 44thminute (20-17).
Slagelse tried a more aggressive defence and theycould upset Dunaferr’s tactical formations, taking the lead in no time (20-21).As usual, the tighter defence was resulted in fast breaks and an improving goalkeeperperformance. Leganger showed some brilliant saves, and she helped her teamgreatly in the last minutes to achieve a three-goal victory (25-28) in an awaymatch.
Dunaferr has already dropped Viborg outof the Champions League, but they will need to improve a lot if they want tobid farewell to another star-studded Danish team.
