The Hungarian handballcommunity is devastated by the tragic loss of Dunaferr’s 28-year oldinternational pivot, Anita Kulcsar. Regardless of which clubs they root for,fans light candles to pay tribute to her everywhere. On Wednesday, at the timeof Dunaferr’s league match against Hodmezovasarhely, the players, coaches, theclub’s management and supporters gathered in the main street of Dunaujvaros,and marched silently to the Sports Hall. They placed hundreds of candles aroundthe complex to commemorate the handballer who passed away so painfully early.
Hungary’s two largest fangroups, those of FTC Budapest and Győri Graboplast ETO, will jointlyremember Anita Kulcsár before the two teams’ clash on Friday. Dunaferr’sgreatest rivals in the Hungarian league have been in fierce competition for thechampionship medals for years, and this season is not in the least anexception. However, the high stakes of the derby are hardly ever mentioned, thesupporters focus more on how to pay homage to the deceased player.
According to the agreementbetween the two teams and the European Handball Federation, the Buducnost Monet– Dunaferr NK Champions League match was rescheduled for 5/6 February, whiletwo of the club’s domestic league clashes were postponed until further notice.Dunaferr will first step on court against CBM Astroc Sagunto in Valencia on 29January.
