Easy walk for THW Kiel

In the opener of Round 6 of the VELUX EHF Champions League THW Kiel had no resistance to break in the Pionir Arena in Beograd – the final result of 35:24 speaks for itself.

In contrast to the first half of the first match last Sunday, when Partizan Beograd led 18:17, the match in Serbia on Wednesday evening had already been decided at the break, when the score was 19:10 for the German runners-up.

In this one-sided game THW was warned of their opponents’ strength from the first minute and controlled the match easily.

Again one of the key factors was goalkeeper Thierry Omeyer, who saved 17 shots in 42 minutes, before being replaced by Andreas Palicka. Top scorer was World Handball Player 2010 Filip Jicha with eleven goals.

Whilst Partizan still wait for their first point, Kiel have overtaken Montpellier in the ranking with seven points – and the Germans now are looking forward the two last VELUX EHF Champions League matches of this year, when they will face their top opponents Montpellier away and Kobenhavn at home.
