The social side of handball: last week in review
The comeback of the VELUX EHF Champions League brought emotions, anniversaries and another burst of fun from PSG, while one of the best coaches in the Women's EHF Champions League was given a taste of the past.
Gone, but not forgotten
It was a highly emotional evening for Veszprém fans on Sunday, who commemorated 10 years since the brutal murder of former Romanian line player and local star Marian Cozma. A beloved figure in Veszprém, the Romanian player was never forgotten, as his number was retired and his memory cherished. The handball world showed once again it can get together, with local rivals MOL-Pick Szeged also paying respect to Cozma at his statue. Veszprém also treated their fans to a superb 29:26 win against Barça Lassa.
The fun is back at PSG
There is nothing that can stop the fun in the Paris Saint-Germain camp, especially as seven players won medals at the World Championship, including Mikkel Hansen, who was also named the EHF Player of the Month for January. Hansen is the star of the new clip, as his clumsy football moves bring laughter to the team.
No shortage of beautiful goals
A total of 469 goals were scored in round 11 of the VELUX EHF Champions League and we selected the best of the best. Stalwarts like William Accambray, Aleix Gomez and Dainis Kristopans feature in this selection, which has both powerful and creative shots. Which is your favourite?
A special moment for Pascual
The game against Veszprém on Saturday also marked the 10-year anniversary for Xavi Pascual as Barça Lassa’s coach. The 50-year old former goalkeeper won the European top competition with the Spanish side twice, in 2010 and 2015. In total, he led the Spanish powerhouse to 41 domestic and international trophies.
Ambros, the goal scorer
A throwback to decades ago is always fun and this gem spotted by the Rostov-Don social media team is worth watching on loop. Their coach, Ambros Martin, a four-time Women’s EHF Champions League winner with Györ, was not such a bad player himself, was he?
