New coach of Crvena Zvezda talks with ehfCL.com

ehfCL.com talks with new coach of Crvena Zvezda about preparations, new players and the forthcoming CL qualification matches against Casarano.

Crvena Zvezda has a new coach. His name is well known - Igor Butulija, ex-captain of the team and also one of the best players in Serbian national team in the past. But he is not the only reinforcement. Crvena Zvezda will also enter the new season with some new players. The biggest reinforcements are returning from Spain – Perisic (Almeria) and Sladic (Alicante). The club has also signed many talented players from domestic competition.

ehfCL.com : Crvena Zvezda is preparing for the new season, what were the first moves that you made as the new coach?

Igor Butulija: I have to say that we are in a very tough situation. Our first match of the season will also be our most important match – the CL qualification match. We have made many improvements, which I think differentiate mediocre teams from the top teams. Now, every player knows exactly his tasks.

ehfCL.com : During preparations Zvezda will play against strong teams like Vardar, Resica and Pick Szeged. You will also travel to Slovenia…

Igor Butulija: Our top priority is to play against strong teams. We are not going for good results in preparation matches. We simply have to find our play against our strong rivals.

ehfCL.com : Are you satisfied with the players that you have?

Igor Butulija: Well, to be honest, we do not have team guaranteed to bring great results in European competitions. However, there are many talented players who can achieve big things in the future with proper training.

ehfCL.com : Your first opponent will be Casarano…

Igor Butulija: Yes. Now, we are concentrating only on the Italians. They play in the European Cup competitions every year and I must say that they have many experienced players. But we know what our job is. We will prepare ourselves in the best possible way. We will not overestimate them, but we will not underestimate them either.
