2007/08 Women's CL Finalised
The European Handball Federation has finalised the list of the participating teams of the 2007/08 EHF Women’s Champions League with defending champions Slagelse DT taking the top position.
The champion from Switzerland and the runner-up from Slovenia have not used their right to participate in the competition and have been replaced by the Champion of Cyprus (Kefalovrysos) and Sweden (IK Sävehof).
As a consequence of this, the final seeding has been adapted slightly with Győr and Metz moving up from pot 2 to pot 1 and from pot 3 to pot 2 in qualification round 2 and the Portuguese champions Madeira Andebol SAD have made a big step forward after being promoted from qualification round 1 directly to qualification round 2.
For the first time, the qualification rounds will be played in tournaments of four teams each at one venue over the course of one weekend. It is understood, that the right of hosting one of these groups is rather essential for the teams in both the qualification round 1 and 2 especially in view of the possible qualification for the next stage of the competition. Consequently, the right to host one of these tournaments will be decided by lots on the occasion of the draw of the groups on June 28, 2007, at 11.00 hrs. at the EHF headquarters in Vienna.
In qualification round one from September 7 - 9 2007, there will be two groups of four teams with the first and the 2nd team from each group proceeding to qualification round 2.
In qualification round two from September 28 - 30 2007, there will be four groups of four teams and only the winner of each group joins those 12 teams, which are directly qualified for the group matches.
The Group Matches will be drawn on the evening of June 29 2007, at the UNIQA Tower in Vienna, as part of the EHF Champions League Gala event.
