Rikke Nielsen Returns to Aalborg DH
After a year in the German Bundesliga club, HC Leipzig, former Danish international, Rikke Nielsen, is back in Aalborg DH. The team will play in the Champions League next year.
The 30-year old Rikke Nielsen is mainly a playmaker, but she can play all positions in the backcourt line. In addition, Nielsen is also a strong defender. She left Aalborg DH after the 2005/06 season to join German champion Leipzig. In spite of several injury breaks, she was on court in the German team for most of their Champions League campaign last season. They were in the same group as Norwegian Larvik HK, Danish Viborg HK and Croatian Podravka Vegeta and these opponents proved to be too difficult for Nielsen and her team-mates.
Happiness in Aalborg
Looking for new challenges was an important reason for Rikke Nielsen to move abroad last year Now, she returns to the North Jutland club, where she celebrated many triumphs.
“She is simply “Miss Aalborg DH” who came home. We were in need of a playmaker, and with her enormous experience she can definitely contribute a lot to our team,” Aalborg’s director, Erik Just told Eurohandball.com after the press conference, where the transfer was officially announced.
“The signing of Rikke Nielsen means that now we have a larger and more experienced squad than last season. I’m sure that we will benefit from that in the Danish league as well as in the Champions League,” added Erik Just.
Rikke Nielsen, who has played 54 internationals for Denmark, will not be a fulltime professional of Aalborg DH, however. The player starts a civil career as well and she will work for a local bank as well.
