Louise Mortensen: We Need to be More Patient

Originally she was a left winger – and 27-year old Louise Mortensen can still do a great job on the left wing. Lately, however, the Danish national player has done marvellously in practically all positions in the backcourt line of Aalborg DH.

The former Esbjerg player showed one of her best performances during her time with the North Jutland club at Aalborg´s astonishing 34-24 home win over Hypo Niederösterreich. She scored six goals and played a fantastic game all in all. Eurohandball.com talked to her after the sensational game.

Eurohandball.com: None of the Aalborg players could have dreamt about defeating Hypo Niederösterreich by ten goals…

Louise Mortensen: No, definitely not – but we got a fantastic start today, and fortunately we were able to hold on to our lead for the entire match. It was nice to see that we did not fall out of the game for certain parts of the match, as we have sometimes done.

Eurohandball.com: But how would you explain this fantastic start?

Louise Mortensen: Our defence was very good from the beginning and we knew that if our defence was strong, we would get some opportunities on counter attacks. And that was just what happened. We could see that the Hypo players got more and more frustrated as we managed to put their best players out of the game.

Eurohandball.com: Did it surprise you that it was so easy to break the moral of the Hypo players?

Louise Mortensen: Yes, I must say I was. I have seen Hypo playing several times recently, and actually, I was quite frightened of them. I think they usually play extremely fast, they are technically good, and normally they work very well together. Therefore, I was really surprised that things were so easy for us today. But then again, that was also because we never allowed them to do the things they are good at.

Eurohandball.com: Personally you also made a great performance today?

Louise Mortensen: Yes, I have to be satisfied with my own game, but there are also things I can improve. I believe I will always feel this way.

Eurohandball.com: Is it also possible for the team to improve – although the performance against Hypo seemed to be close to perfect?

Louise Mortensen: Yes, I think we got a little too eager at times, so maybe we just need a little more patience.
